The Doomsday Bunker: MoD's secret command centre (including a pine bed for the ‘Principal’)
It sounds like something out of the BBC drama Spooks – but the Ministry of Defence's secret command centre deep beneath Whitehall lacks the glamour of a TV set.
Designed to house the nation's political and military leaders in a crisis, the bunker will become the operational hub of Government if Britain comes under attack.
As a unique set of photographs in the Mail on Sunday's Live magazine shows, however, the three-storey network of rooms and passages is stark and utilitarian rather than humming with James Bond-style security devices......

I was once up in Skeggie filming an older bunker that was meant to carry on in a nuke attack. It was amazing. Looked like a typical farmhouse from above, but the facade hid a cinder block reinforced entrance with a 6inch steel door. You walked down a tunnel 3 stories below where the real bunker began. It was made to house 500 people with triple redundancy on generators, huge oil reserves and a nuclear generator (removed). The place was hermetically sealed and had not been operational in a decade - yet no dust! Huge, and the principal's quarters were great. There was even a BBC radio room! It had it's own direct connection to the power grid. They told me all of England would have to go down before they would need the generators - even hospitals would go before it.

Once the several bomb doors were closed and sealed no one from the outside can get in.

The frill are there, look at the duct work. They have what they really want.
