well first you need to grab the actual flash movie from youtube, there are a few tools for that and then convert that flash movie into dvd format (mpeg-2 if i remember correctly , which i probably don't).

an easy process if you are used to doing it with google video

I do this in two stages;

First I capture the Youtube file with;

http://keepvid.com/

This grabs the data in .flv format.

I then use a video converter. There are lots of free ones but unless you pay the fee for the full version, most will slap a distracting watermark on the video. However, the free ones will allow you to grab the soundtrack as an .mp3 or .wav, which is nice.

http://www.vixy.net

Converts the file online for you from .flv into .avi for download, then use an appropriate DVD program like WinAVIVideoConverter for a fast DVD version

Telecasterisation, sorry to ask but what software do you use for manipulating .flv files, as I tired a shed load out awhile back with poor results, so took to the above method instead?

http://www.flash-video-mx.com/flv_to_video_web/

This includes a .flv downloader, so you don't need the first software I mentioned above if you get this.

youtube has been blocking the javamoya videodownloader (which is also the one you can get as a plugin for the firefox browser) since friday.

http://keepvid.com/ still works fine with youtube videos, but - at least for me - it fails to recognise Google video URLs when I put them in, though, just as the javamoya one did.

you can bypass all this by telling your browser to open location:
http://keepvid.com/?url=
followed by the stream URL of the video. It will then give you the usual 'save as' options.

Moyea FLV Downloader still works but not via the auto route, you have to manually start the video.

I only use this to then convert to mp3 for music production. There was an album out in 1990 called Power Themes and I am doing an up to date version with sound bytes from my favourite movies. Just did a mix of Norman Wisdom from the parade ground sequence in The Square Peg film, now working on Last Action Hero starring Arnold Brownschweiger.

Jewish group in Germany mulls complaint against YouTube
http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/897526.html
Last update - 19:57 26/08/2007

Germany's Central Council of Jews is considering a criminal complaint against YouTube for allowing videos that promote racial hatred and glorify war, it was reported Sunday.

Such action makes the video-sharing website liable to charges of incitement to racial hatred, the council's vice president, Salomon Korn, told the German television program Report Mainz.

"I expect the prosecutor's office, other relevant authorities and, if necessary, the German government to take action against this," Korn was quoted as saying in the program due to be aired Monday.

Program researchers said it was possible to watch videos on YouTube of an anti-Semitic film released by the Nazis during World War II called Jud Suess.

Outlawed videos of the neo-Nazi groups Kommando Freisler and Landser were also available on the Web site, the television programme broadcast by Germany's ARD network said.

but tony, they're only "mulling" it. This is perhaps more indicative of eventual action than "eyeing" it, but not by much.

returning to the technical aspects - another thing I would really like would be a free basic video editor (not a cracked copy of a proprietory one).

By basic, I mean, cut and splice image tracks, add or remove soundtracks. I do not desire to superimpose pictures of the world trade center towers on backgrounds featuring octopi changing colour, or anything like that.

I have a feeling they will do it,
you see youtube is complete anarchy and everything is available on their site from beatings and animal torture to every racist tendacy let me give you a couple of examples
http://www.youtube.com/user/PAKISARECOCKSUCKERS
this guy has actually called himself Pakis are *
and every video he has posted and every comment he has made is on the same theme

Link

This woman has renamed Pakistan - Porkistan

But these are a tiny tip of a giant iceberg. So some censorship of youtube is undoubtedly coming. But ofcourse i dont think that is what they want they want videos like these censored not the racist ones

The following toolbar addition to Firefox, or bookmark addition to IE users maybe of interest. It downloads google videos in avi format with a single click and appears to bypass the problems vdownloader and other programs have had. Well it works for me at least.

http://googlesystem.blogspot.com/2006/04/download-google-videos-as-avi -files.html

Thanks for those videos Stelios.

It is possible to capture any form of web video by using snagit - from Techsmith or - via bittorrent. Converts to .avi on the spot.

I only get broken files from Orbit Downloader, vdowndloader now no longer works and that Firefox etension also fails to work the majority of the time. Snag IT used to work for most things but now just reboots my pc during the capture of long segments.

Arrgghh.....it is getting very difficult to grab important films except via P2P.

Is anyone else finding this?

Problem solved you have to make sure .flv goes at the end of the new title such as 911 Truth.flv

Might be a Windows security update that has changed this as free downloads of mp3s from Myspace now require you to give them a file type also .mp3

Orbit doesn't work properly with firefox (but then firefox is junk anyway).

So with MS Internet Explorer and using the 'Grab++' feature (It is on the Tools menu of Orbit), you will have no bother getting anything you wish.

Brian.

Just thought I would give people a heads up on an incredibly useful tool for archiving youtube content that may disappear down the memory hole.

Most people probably haven't had much problem in grabbing files but I have found that virtually all prior downloader’s listed here, no longer work reliably if at all, or that their servers are so busy as to be useless if they are online converters.

http://www.Vixy.net have bettered their youtube .FLV to .AVi or .MPEG online converter, with a desktop version that works very well. It’s along the lines of the prior Google Vdownloader application.

It comes with very minor advertising, akin to the sponsored links on Google or mobile phone ads all within the software and not at all intrusive (not spyware/adware) and it works damn fast too, to give good quality AVI files. Their online converter is always so busy it is obsolete. So this is very welcome at least to me.

In addition and the reason worth bumping this thread by mentioning it all, is that they have produced an absolutely stunning application that allows you to produce an RSS feed of any given Youtube search term, or users Channel.

This can be subscribed to in i-tunes, to produce MP4 video files that download themselves very rapidly, allowing you to capture any or all of a users posted videos unattended.

The resultant MP4 files then very rapidly convert to .VOB DVD files via Win AVI converter for placing into a DVD authoring program, or are of course perfect for pc / i-pod / PSP viewing etc as they are. The DVD result on a TV is certainly acceptable from the MP4's and looks like standard TV resolution. Use the AVI based desktop converter if you are really picky.

This really is a very useful, fast and effective application for grabbing an archived copy of any youtube content. Make use of it while it lasts, as it’s the fastest way of ensuring important information gets archived. My only regret in mentioning it with enthusiasm, is that it may get swamped or stamped out of existence, or that it is perhaps very old news that no-one as usual gives two cents about, like 9/11.

Echoing conserns regarding the integrity of the internet.. [Freeware]

You'll be able to save YouTube videos as .flv files, then watch those videos with any multimedia software that supports the .flv format, such as the FVL Player and VLC Media Player. Before downloading the videos, you also get a full description of them, as well.

Go here:

www.keepvid.com

It's the one that I use and it's rather good. It'll save the files to .flv format.

Also you can put kick before youtube like
Code:

I mostly use Orbit Downloader myself, without installing the homepage or browser tool, don't trust no corporate spies Laughing
